Man apprehended in car chase in KCK

A Missouri car chase that trickled into Kansas City, Kan., this morning resulted in one person being arrested.

The man is described as a 27-year-old and two other people were in the car with him.

POLICE BEAT: Multiple cars broken into during basketball game

A car thief broke into or attempted to break into several vehicles during last Friday night's Harmon-Wyandotte basketball game at J.C. Harmon High School.

Fortunately, it appeared only one valuable was stolen – a Dell Laptop.

Based on the time on the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department's report on the spree, it appeared the burglaries happened at around halftime of the game.

The report indicates nine separate people were victims of the thefts.

A case of criminal damage was also filed at the scene.

POLICE BEAT: Two large drug busts made

Kansas City, Kan., police recently seized over 100 grams of drugs in two separate incidents.

• Police found 115 grams of marijuana on someone on 14th and Central Avenue on Jan. 30. Police also discovered a "wood pipe" on the suspect. The suspect was picked up at about 5:30 on Jan. 30.

• Police discovered over 122 grams of methamphetamine on the 4600 Block of Greeley Avenue. The person who was picked up was selling the drug. The drugs were discovered on Feb. 3. The suspect had been selling it in the area since Jan. 30.

KMBC: One dead in shooting

One person was killed in a shotting on the 1800 Block of North 27th Street, KMBC Channel 9 reports.

Along with the fatality, another person was injured in the shooting.

Two death victims identified

The Kansas City, Kan., Police Department has released the identities of two Kansas City, Kan., residents who were found dead in their home on Tuesday.

Van J. Richardson, 52, and Kathy Smith, 53, passed away and were found dead in their homes by police officers Tuesday.

The cause of death remains unknown.

Cause of two deaths unknown

After Kansas City, Kan., Police Department officers discovered two bodies in a home Tuesday, the cause of death remains an unanswered question.

KCK police found the bodies at a home on the 2500 Block of Junction Road.

After arriving on the season on a nature unknown call, police officers spoke with an area resident who made the discovery of the two dead bodies, one white male and one white female.

However, the cause of the deaths remain unknown and identifications will not be released until a positive identification and family notification.

Two KCMO teens charged in car wash incident

De'Vonta Findley and Sequoya Miner have both been charged by Wyandotte County District Attorney Jerome Gorman in connection to an attempted robbery at a car wash on the 2700 Block of Merriam Lane.

Findley, 16 and Miner, 17, were both charged with aggravated robbery, conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery, conspiracy to commit burglary and felony theft. A third person involved in the robbery died of gun shot wounds last Friday.

Both Findley and Miner are in custody in the Wyandotte County Juvenile Detention Facility and both are residents of Kansas City, Mo.

A detention hearing will be heard later this afternoon.

The incident happened on Jan. 15.

POLICE BEAT: Ladders, tools stolen from vehicle

Approximately $600 in tools, a tool box and two ladders were stolen from a vehicle earlier this week in Kansas City, Kan.

The incident happened Thursday morning on the 7300 Block of Parkview Avenue. The thief broke into the car overnight at the home. No force of entry or criminal damage was reported, so it's possible the car was unlocked or the tools were within view of the criminal.

About 20 hand tools valued at $600 were stolen. A $100 tool box was taken and two ladders, valued at just over $250, were also stolen.

It was reported to Kansas City, Kan., police shortly after 7 a.m. that Thursday.

POLICE BEAT: $3,325 stolen from home

A Jan. 7 robbery of a home on the 8900 Block of Armstrong resulted in the loss of $3,325.

The robbery happened sometime between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. last Thursday. A thief entered the home and found a Brinks Safe inside, which contained the money.

It was reported to Kansas City, Kan., police on the same day. A criminal damage report was filed along with the burglary report, as the use of force was required by the suspect to enter the facility.

POLICE BEAT: About $5,000 in tools, generator stolen from car

About $5,000 in tools and a generator were stolen from a vehicle on Kansas 32 and Swartz Road earlier this week.

The theft reportedly happened on Wednesday at around 6 p.m. An aluminum tool box with tools, valued at $2,500, was stolen. Wall jacks ($2,400) and a $2,300 generator were stolen from the car.

The truck with the merchandise had its bed damaged to the tune of $600.

The theft was reported to police just before 8 p.m. on the same night.

Death of woman ruled accidental

The death of a woman in Kansas City, Kan., this weekend has been ruled as accidental.

Hazel Holmes, 82, was a KCK resident. Her family has been identified.

Kansas City, Kan., police found Holmes dead on the 7400 Block of Osage Avenue and immediately conducted an investigation into any potential foul play.

However, it turns out no foul play was involved and the case is now said to be solved.

MUG.jpgThe Kansas City, Kan., Police Department is still soliciting information regarding Andre S. Chapple, Jr., who has been issued a warrant for second degree murder.

Chapple, Jr., is wanted in connection to the murder of Kansas City, Kan., resident Eddie Cobbs, which happened on Dec. 2 in the 2300 Block of Silver Court.

Chapple, Jr., is described as a black male who's 5-11. He weights 230 pounds and features black hair and brown eyes. He's 32 years old.

Suspicious package found at Courthouse; UPDATE: Area is safe, roads to be opened soon; FINAL UPDATE: Barnett opened again

3:03 p.m. : Kansas City, Kan., police have arrived at Wyandotte County Courthouse after a "suspicious package" was suspected.

The area around the courthouse has been blocked off. More as it develops.

UPDATE 3:08 p.m.: Seventh street from Barnett to Ann is about to be shut down around the area. The Wyandotte County Sheriff's office is also on the scene.

UPDATE 3:11 p.m.: The package is being described as a "black suitcase" in the northeast corner of the building under a bush. Police say the case has not been there long because "snow isn't on it."

UPDATE 3:13 p.m.: A Twitter follower near the scene said the courthouse has been evacuated. Emergency units have been set up on the 800 Block surrounding the Wyandotte County Courthouse.

UPDATE 3:19 p.m.: As an update to a previous update, eastbound traffic on Ann and Barnett is currently being blocked off by KCK police. More units are arriving on the scene as well.

UPDATE 3:32 p.m.: A mile radius around 7th Street trafficway has been closed off to traffic.

UPDATE 3:41 p.m.: Someone in the area says those around the area are being encouraged to go towards Memorial Hall, just a few streets over.

UPDATE 3:43 p.m.: There's police activity around the 900 Block of Barnett.

UPDATE 3:54 p.m.: In non-courthouse news, there's been a two-vehicle accident on Interstate 435 near K-32 in Edwardsville. One injury has been confirmed. Look for a separate news post on this later on.

UPDATE 4:06 p.m.: Fire personnel have been sent to the scene's command post, which is located at 8th and Barnett.

UPDATE 4:07 p.m.: The traffic situation could have an effect on employees at the Kansas City, Kan., Public Library and the central office at the Kansas City, Kan., Public Schools District's central office. For those who park in the back, Ann is the only way they can exit the parking lot.

UPDATE 4:13 p.m.: Media outlets are being encouraged to head towards 8th and Tauromee.

UPDATE 4:28 p.m.: Members from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation are on the scene.

UPDATE 4:31 p.m.: In a quick non-courthouse news update, a car with a flat tire is causing a significant traffic hazard on I-635, just south of I-70. Those heading home or elsewhere via that path should take note.

UPDATE 4:36 p.m.: Police again confirmed that the case was recently placed at the scene. Roads remain blocked off.

UPDATE 4:52 p.m.: The suspicious has been investigated. Nothing unusual. The area appears to be all safe.

UPDATE 4:55 p.m.: Fire and EMS units have been cleared to leave the scene. Roads that were closed will be reopened soon and all traffic flow should be normal.

UPDATE 4:59 p.m.: The Kansas City, Kan., Police Department and Wyandotte County Sheriff's office have shut down their command post. Law enforcement beginning to trickle out at the scene.

UPDATE 5:27 p.m.: Barnett has been reopened to traffic. This is the final update for this story in regards to this post. I'll have a follow up available either later tonight or tomorrow. Thanks again for following.

POLICE BEAT: 203 grams of marijuana seized

Kansas City, Kan., police discovered about 203 grams of marijuana on a person picked up on the 1500 Block of Minnesota Avenue Tuesday morning.

Along with the marijuana, one gram of methamphetamine and a marijuana blunt were also found.

Police found the drugs just after 1 a.m. on Tuesday.

POLICE BEAT: Construction site robbed of power tools

Along with copper, another Christmas hit for thieves around Wyandotte County appears to be power tools.

A Quickdraw Construction site on the 10000 Block of Parallel Parkway was robbed of an estimated 40 power tools valued at $10,000.

The robbery occurred sometime last weekend. A trailer was broken into by at least one person sometime between last Friday evening and Monday morning. The incident was reported to police at 7 a.m. Monday morning.

Along with a burglary report, police also filed a criminal damage report at the site, as the construction trailer had an estimated damage total of $1,000.
