3:03 p.m. : Kansas City, Kan., police have arrived at Wyandotte County Courthouse after a "suspicious package" was suspected.

The area around the courthouse has been blocked off. More as it develops.

UPDATE 3:08 p.m.: Seventh street from Barnett to Ann is about to be shut down around the area. The Wyandotte County Sheriff's office is also on the scene.

UPDATE 3:11 p.m.: The package is being described as a "black suitcase" in the northeast corner of the building under a bush. Police say the case has not been there long because "snow isn't on it."

UPDATE 3:13 p.m.: A Twitter follower near the scene said the courthouse has been evacuated. Emergency units have been set up on the 800 Block surrounding the Wyandotte County Courthouse.

UPDATE 3:19 p.m.: As an update to a previous update, eastbound traffic on Ann and Barnett is currently being blocked off by KCK police. More units are arriving on the scene as well.

UPDATE 3:32 p.m.: A mile radius around 7th Street trafficway has been closed off to traffic.

UPDATE 3:41 p.m.: Someone in the area says those around the area are being encouraged to go towards Memorial Hall, just a few streets over.

UPDATE 3:43 p.m.: There's police activity around the 900 Block of Barnett.

UPDATE 3:54 p.m.: In non-courthouse news, there's been a two-vehicle accident on Interstate 435 near K-32 in Edwardsville. One injury has been confirmed. Look for a separate news post on this later on.

UPDATE 4:06 p.m.: Fire personnel have been sent to the scene's command post, which is located at 8th and Barnett.

UPDATE 4:07 p.m.: The traffic situation could have an effect on employees at the Kansas City, Kan., Public Library and the central office at the Kansas City, Kan., Public Schools District's central office. For those who park in the back, Ann is the only way they can exit the parking lot.

UPDATE 4:13 p.m.: Media outlets are being encouraged to head towards 8th and Tauromee.

UPDATE 4:28 p.m.: Members from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation are on the scene.

UPDATE 4:31 p.m.: In a quick non-courthouse news update, a car with a flat tire is causing a significant traffic hazard on I-635, just south of I-70. Those heading home or elsewhere via that path should take note.

UPDATE 4:36 p.m.: Police again confirmed that the case was recently placed at the scene. Roads remain blocked off.

UPDATE 4:52 p.m.: The suspicious has been investigated. Nothing unusual. The area appears to be all safe.

UPDATE 4:55 p.m.: Fire and EMS units have been cleared to leave the scene. Roads that were closed will be reopened soon and all traffic flow should be normal.

UPDATE 4:59 p.m.: The Kansas City, Kan., Police Department and Wyandotte County Sheriff's office have shut down their command post. Law enforcement beginning to trickle out at the scene.

UPDATE 5:27 p.m.: Barnett has been reopened to traffic. This is the final update for this story in regards to this post. I'll have a follow up available either later tonight or tomorrow. Thanks again for following.

Wow, a mile radius! I'm sure that was done just to keep additional traffic from making things worse, but it sounds bad. Glad it all worked out. What can you tell us about what they discovered in the suitcase?

Working on that now....my gut feeling is someone accident left it there while taking a break outside or something. Then, for whatever reason, they forgot.

Who knows.
