About The Kansas City Kansan
Founded on Jan. 31, 1921, by U.S. Sen. Arthur Capper, the Kansan was for decades the only daily newspaper serving exclusively Kansas City, Kan. and the other towns of Wyandotte County. On Jan. 10, 2009, The Kansan ceased print publication and became an online-only community news source.
The Kansan is independently operated and unaffiliated with any other media. It's the only locally owned and independent media dedicated to Wyandotte County.
The purpose of the site is to provide local residents with timely news and information mostly about Wyandotte County. It is also our mission to ensure that every resident has a chance to contribute to the community by posting news and opinion about events, whether of local interest or national or international importance.
We believe that through civil discussion, communities grow stronger. We encourage all residents to participate, and only ask that each contributor treat others with respect.
Publisher - Nick Sloan
Nick Sloan was born in the city he proudly covers: Kansas City, Kan. While he has spent time in other locations, most notably in Colorado, he has spent most of his life in KCK.
After graduating from Sumner Academy in 2003, he attended college at Washburn University, where he majored in Mass Media and History. He began his career at The Kansas City Kansan as a freelance writer in 2005. He was hired as a full-time education reporter in March 2006, where he served until October 2008, when he was hired as Sports Editor.
His hobbies include basketball, golf, blogging, photography and lifting weights. Interesting skills: he can speak both German and Spanish.
